Keith Armstrong

Keith J Armstrong, Director, BE (Civil), MIPENZ, Registered Engineer, NZ Department of Labour Registered Construction Diver, Safety Supervisor and Construction Blaster, NZ Ministry of Transport Restricted Limits Launchmaster, CMAS and NZ Underwater Association/PADI Diving Instructor.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 1981Keith moved to New Plymouth where he was seconded to Shell BP and Todd Oil Services Limited on a variety of work including supervision of engineering and air diving programmes on the Maui A platform, supervision of air diving maintenance programmes on the Maui A pipelines, costing of Maui B pipeline alternative routes, and repair methods for a damaged gas riser pull tube, and design checks and supervision of modifications at the Oaonui Production Station for Maui Stage II. He has also been involved with the preparation and evaluation of Tender, supervision of fabrication, and installation of large structural components above and below water on the Maui A platform. This work involved very stringent welding fabrication and QA requirements to ensure fit up. Special installation and rigging procedures along with safety audits were a requirement.

 

 

 

 

 

Keith Armstrong

In 1969 Keith was employed as a harbour engineer for Southland Harbour Board, becoming a senior engineer in 1975. His work with the board included supervision of the Tiwai wharf construction, underwater blasting and vibration monitoring, and dredging work with a cutter suction dredge. Mr Armstrong joined R W Morris and Associates in 1977 and was the resident engineer for the new port development at Tarakohe. He has also been involved with feasibility studies and underwater inspection work, both in New Zealand and in the Pacific, and with seabed and coastal investigations at Kapiti.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Keith has also been involved, as client rep on two ROV inspections of Cook Strait power and fibre optic cables, in engineering diving inspections of outfalls during construction and maintenance requirements and in coastal erosion investigations, design and construction supervision of many coastal protection works.
